From increased oil recovery to increased heart recovery
22.09.2016
Norway Pumps & Pipes is a platform for bringing together professionals of diverse technical background. We believe that solutions to challenging problems may well be in ‘’The Other Guy’s Toolkit’’. September 16th 2016 Norway Pumps & Pipes invited to the first in a series of five lunch seminars.
The aim of the seminars is to share results and knowledge from Norway Pumps & Pipes projects. In addition, the seminars provide a meeting place for professionals from industry, business, and academia. In this first seminar Jan Ludvig Vinningland, Senior Scientist at IRIS, held a presentation with the title ‘’From increased oil recovery to increased heart recovery: computer models for non-invasive diagnostics’’. Vinningland and his research partners at Stavanger University Hospital, Uni Research Polytec, and IRIS suggest to apply computer models for flow of oil and water in rocks for modeling the flow of blood in coronary arteries. The goal is to develop a technique for non-invasive evaluation of the severity of narrow coronary arteries by combining computer models of blood flow and medical imaging. Traditionally, this evaluation is performed by using an invasive technique, meaning that a catheter needs to be inserted into the patient’s aorta. A non-invasive technique is far more gentle to the patient and also far less risky.
Over 30 participants followed the presentation, and several were connected via video.
Norway Pumps & Pipes invites you to join the next seminar that will be held Friday October 14th 2016 at IRIS in Stavanger. For more information about the seminars and information about how to register visit
